Whittemore Gets 25 To Life For Murder Of Girlfriend

A New Hartford man will spend 25 years to life in prison for the murder of his girlfriend in her SUNY Brockport dorm room.

Clayton Whittemore received the maximum sentence after being convicted May 30 of second degree murder for the brutal beating death in September 2012 of Alexandra Kogut.  The two had both graduated from high school in New Hartford.

Prior to the sentence being handed down, Kogut's mother Becky told the court about how she had dropped her daughter off at college just two weeks before the murder.  She said she had a horrible fear she would never see her daughter again.  Whittemore also spoke briefly, apologizing to Alexandra's family.
