A Rome woman is being credited with saving the lives of a young girl and her mother after they fell off a pier Sunday at Sylvan Beach.
Seven year old Abbagail Givens fell into the water into a canal below while feeding ducks. Her mother Lunelle panicked and jumped into the water after her, and neither knew how to swim.
Bystanders were trying to reach for both of them, but were unsuccessful, and that's when Gail Powell of Rome decided to jump into the canal and she was able to rescue both mother and child and keep thier heads above water and they were brought back to the edge of the pier.
Sheriffs Deputies are crediting Powell and her quick action with saving the lives of both mother and daughter and both victim are now doing well.
