Cicero Man Dies Of Exposure

Onondaga County Sheriff's Deputies and East Syracuse Police report that a missing person has died as an apparent result of the cold temperatures.

At about 2:30 AM Sunday morning, 21 year old Mark Palumbo of Cicero was out with friends when his vehicle became stuck in a ditch on Route 690 East near Thompson Road in the Village of East Syracuse.

Palumbo decided to walk for assistance in the 6 degree weather while his friends stayed with his vehicle. A short time later, an East Syracuse Police Officer arrived at the location of Palumbo’s vehicle. Palumbo was contacted by his friends via cell phone; however Palumbo refused to return to the vehicle and refused to give them his location.

At about 7:35 PM Sunday evening, Palumbo’s mother reported to Cicero Police that Mark never returned home. East Syracuse Police Officer T. Bingham located Mark Palumbo at approximately 12:20 AM Monday morning, deceased, in the rear of the Metalcraft building located on Burnet Ave in East Syracuse. East Syracuse Police turned the death investigation over to the Sheriff’s Office.

Further investigation by Sheriff’s OfficeCriminal Division Detectives showed that it appears that Mark Palumbo died of exposure to the cold temperatures.
